I. Purpose

The ACP Language Module exists to produce measurable increases in:

  • Listening comprehension
  • Reading comprehension
  • Spontaneous speaking
  • Lexical and structural retrieval durability
  • Register control

It does not exist to:

  • Simulate fluency
  • Reward participation
  • Generate performative artifacts
  • Produce grades as narrative substitutes for proficiency

The module is constitutional: it binds exposure, retrieval, and output to measurable artifacts.

II. Core Objects

1. InputContract

Definition:
A weekly, level-specific requirement specifying minimum input exposure.

Fields:

  • listening_minutes_required
  • reading_minutes_required
  • fast_speech_exposure_required (bool / minutes)
  • lexical_density_target
  • topic_distance_level (self → civic → geopolitical → abstract)

Invariant:
Input must qualify as i+1 (comprehensible but stretching).

Refusal Semantics:
If input_minutes_completed < 80%:

  • Arena escalation blocked
  • No proficiency progression claim allowed

2. RetrievalSchedule

Definition:
A spiral schedule governing reappearance of lexical, structural, and phonological items.

Fields:

  • item_id
  • first_exposure_date
  • retrieval_dates[]
  • retrieval_success_rate
  • failure_cluster_tag

Invariant:
No unit reset allowed.
Items reappear by rule, not by instructor discretion.

Refusal Semantics:
If retrieval_success_rate < threshold across cluster:

  • Advancement frozen
  • Remedial microcycle auto-triggered

3. SpeakingLedger

Definition:
A record of actual speaking minutes and interaction types.

Fields:

  • minutes_spoken_per_week
  • interaction_type (pair / triad / adversarial / formal briefing)
  • recorded_artifacts[]
  • repair_tags[]

Invariant:
Minimum speaking_minutes_required per week by level.

Refusal Semantics:
If speaking_minutes < threshold:

  • “Advanced” designation invalid
  • Arena participation downgraded

4. MediaPacket

Definition:
Curated weekly i+1 bundle.

Fields:

  • media_id
  • modality (audio/video/text)
  • difficulty_band
  • lexical_targets[]
  • structural_targets[]
  • comprehension_check_id

Invariant:
Every arena event must reference a MediaPacket.

No arena without upstream input.

5. ArenaEvent

Arena types:

  • Consularium
  • CountryTeam
  • PressEngagement

Fields:

  • prerequisites_met (bool)
  • roles_assigned[]
  • performance_record
  • breakdown_tags[]
  • repair_log_generated (bool)

Invariant:
ArenaEvent is application layer only.

It cannot generate legitimacy on its own.

Refusal Semantics:
If InputContract or RetrievalSchedule noncompliant:

  • ArenaEvent downgraded to practice-only
  • No proficiency credit granted

6. RepairLog

Definition:
Structured error-to-remediation mapping.

Fields:

  • error_type (tone / morphology / register / speed / lexical retrieval)
  • frequency
  • severity
  • assigned_microdrill[]
  • recheck_date

Invariant:
Every ArenaEvent must generate RepairLog entries.

No performance without correction mapping.

III. Kernel Invariants (Language-Agnostic)

  1. Input Precedes Output
No speaking escalation without verified exposure.
  2. Retrieval Governs Retention
    No progression without spaced durability.
  3. Speaking Minutes Are Measured
    Classroom presence ≠ speaking time.
  4. Skill Balance Is Enforced
Reading may not outrun speaking by >1 band.
  5. Arena Is Earned
    Simulation without substrate = theater.

IV. LanguageProfile Schema

Each language registers a Burden Profile.

Fields:

  • phonology_load (low / medium / high / extreme)
  • script_load (alphabetic / abugida / logographic / dual)
  • morphology_load (low → high)
  • register_divergence (low / medium / diglossic)
  • early_failure_risk (phonology / script / morphology / plateau)
  • handwriting_required (bool / capped / advanced_only)
  • heritage_track_required (bool)

V. Profile Application (Examples)

Chinese

  • phonology_load: high (tones)
  • script_load: logographic
  • handwriting_required: capped
  • early_failure_risk: phonology overload
  • additional object: ToneMicrodoseProtocol

Arabic

  • register_divergence: diglossic
  • additional invariant:
Must specify dialect for speaking claims
  • separate MSA literacy + dialect speaking lanes

Spanish / Portuguese / French

  • phonology_load: medium
  • early_failure_risk: intermediate plateau
  • additional invariant:
    RegisterEscalationLane activated Year 2

Japanese

  • script_load: dual
  • phonology_load: medium (pitch accent)
  • additional object: ScriptSequencingController

Russian

  • morphology_load: high
  • additional object: MorphologyRecyclingMap

Hindi / Bangla

  • script_load: abugida
  • early_failure_risk: script bottleneck
  • handwriting_required: capped

English

  • register_divergence: high
  • additional invariant:
    FastSpeechExposureLane mandatory by intermediate level

VI. Arena Layer — Design

Weekly Cycle (Universal)

  1. MediaPacket assigned
  2. Comprehension verified
  3. Retrieval checks run
  4. ArenaEvent executed
  5. RepairLog generated
  6. Microdrills scheduled

Consularium

Controlled negotiation:

  • clarification
  • structured response
  • limited adversarial pressure

Good for intermediate stage.

CountryTeam

Multi-role coordination:

  • briefing
  • dissent
  • compromise
  • decision

Requires stable listening + discourse control.

PressEngagement

Adversarial Q&A:

  • speed
  • interruption handling
  • repair under stress

Only unlocked after:

  • listening threshold met
  • speaking durability verified

VII. Dashboard (ACP Enforcement Layer)

Each cohort tracked for:

  • Input compliance %
  • Retrieval durability %
  • Speaking minutes median
  • Skill delta (reading vs speaking)
  • Advanced attainment %

Automatic triggers:

ConditionAction
Speaking lags reading >1 bandIncrease speaking density
Tone error cluster persistsActivate phonology repair cycle
Plateau at IntermediateEscalate i+1 density
Input compliance <80%Arena lock

VIII. What This Changes

  1. Language module is no longer scenario-driven.
  2. It becomes exposure-governed.
  3. Arena participation becomes earned.
  4. Proficiency claims become artifact-bound.
  5. Chinese/Arabic/Japanese no longer rely on “good pedagogy vibes”; their burden profiles actively reshape pacing.

IX. Acceptance Criteria

The module is functioning if:

  • Median speaking proficiency increases year-over-year
  • Skill deltas shrink (balanced growth)
  • Input compliance correlates strongly with advancement
  • Plateau rates decrease
  • Advanced speaking becomes reproducible, not rare

If these do not occur, module design must be revised.

X. Strategic Insight

This aligns perfectly with ACP philosophy:

  • Replace narrative claims (“we are advanced”)
  • With mechanical prerequisites (“you cannot escalate without proof of substrate”)

Language acquisition becomes constitutional.
